Eating out takes courage…after all, you’re trusting a whole team of people to prepare you a meal that meets the highest standards of quality and safety. Sadly, one or both of these standards are not met which can not only lead to an unpleasant experience but cause serious illness as well. Though there isn’t much anyone can do about quality, the UK government has taken steps and introduced initiatives over the years to ensure that proper safety and hygiene standards are maintained in all London restaurants.
The Department of Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) has partnered with the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAFF) to establish regulations that can be dually enforced within the restaurant industry as they fall under the jurisdiction of both. Any new legislation passed is enacted and inspections begin within three months, so you can rest assured that the place you’re dining at has been visited recently. Non compliance with any violations found result in closure of establishments. If you have an issue with a place you’ve eaten at, contact either of these departments for assistance…not reporting such issues makes things unsafe for everyone, so don’t be afraid to speak up.
